We bought one and then purchased some for our children/grandchildren. Half of the time the Skype says "can't find web cam" and so we can hear, but can't see them. Who knows what has happened. I have been trying all night to get an answer. Once in a while, it works. We go to Skype, click on a name in the contact list, the screen shows where we can choose "make video call" and....
It is frustating.

this webcam works great for me.i get one for my laptop and another one for my desktop.both video and still pictures,easy to use. it was exactly as advertised and i recieved in a timely manner

bought this webcam for skype- at first it worked for a second and then the other party could not see me. For some reason, I had to change the video settings to "accept video from everyone"- it worked just fine after that. Don't know why but it works now so??? I don't really sit next to my computer when using it- I'm actually walking around and my kids are playing quite far from the camera actually and my parents can see us still quite well @ a distance so I know it's a decent camera- microphone on the camera works okay up close but not quite as well far away- but I doubt that it was meant to be used from across the room so I can't take away because of that! HA Super for the money and better than the webcam on my mom's netbook :)

Many times it is difficult to find a web cam or other device that works well with Linux. This one is definitely not the case. I recommend this web cam to any Linux aficionado out there looking for great deal.
crappy microphone - have to use earphones with the mic March 4, 2010

I tried to use this camera and talk without microphone, but idiotic noise cancellations system pretty much made my voice disappear. So I started to use my earphones with the mic. It's a common problem for HP web cameras because this is second HP web cam that I have.
