Amazon.com Product Description PC and Mac compatible, the Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 is an efficient color scanner that delivers high-quality results. Ideal for home or small office use, this compact flatbed model with 8.5-by-11.7-inch platen produces up to 1,200 x 2,400 dot-per-inch (dpi) optical resolution (software enhanced resolution: 19,200 color dpi) and 48-bit color depth, for over 281 trillion possible colors and incredibly vibrant images. The Z-Lid expansion top easily accommodates bulky items. One simple cable provides both power and a USB connection, which helps reduce the number of wires cluttering your workspace. Whether you're scanning old family photos, personal documents, or a company memo, the streamlined LiDE 25 is easy to use. Three buttons automate the entire process, so you can effortlessly scan, send images to your printer for copying, or prepare attachments for an email. After you position your original and select the use for the image, you can preview the result in approximately 16 seconds. The LiDE 25 even saves you time after you scan, by automatically retouching and enhancing your image. Additionally, this model comes with powerful software applications, including the CanoScan Toolbox 4.9, which you can use to scan documents and then create and manipulate PDFs. If you're tackling a larger project, in the Multi-Scan Mode you can scan multiple images simultaneously, rather than one by one. Simply arrange them on the glass and select Multi-Scan. The LiDE 25 scanner also comes with Quick Automatic Retouching and Enhancement (QARE) technology, which reduces dust and scratches that may appear on older originals. It even autocorrects to help decrease graininess, picture fading, and improper backlighting. After enhancement you can archive these beautiful images and then e-mail them or print them for family and friends. What's in the Box CanoScan LiDE 25, ScanGear CS (Win/Mac), CanoScan Toolbox CS (Win/Mac), ArcSoft PhotoStudio (Win/Mac), and ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR (Win/Mac).

Why would anyone with a PC not want this scanner? August 18, 2008 S. Highley (Dublin, OH United States) Everyone has a printer to convert digital information to paper but I'm constantly surprised how many people don't have a scanner to convert paper to digital information. This is a very inexpensive way to be able to do that. I like that the device gets its power from the USB connnection. It does a good job scanning. The software was pretty easy to learn well enough to do some basic scanning, cropping, etc.
This Died after 4 uses! August 11, 2008 M. D. McCord (Wisconsin, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The software was a pain, and now it's dead after just 4 times i used it. HP scanner is next for me, Canon made a hunk of trash.
Works great! August 3, 2008 L. Yeaton I needed a basic scanner for the sole purpose of making copies. I have a printer that does a fine job so I really did not want to replace it with an all-in-one kind of product. This scanner is exactly what I wanted. I use it once or twice a month and it works fine. The price is great!
Value, functionality, no bells & whistles. July 28, 2008 Adam Z (San Francisco) This is a great scanner in terms of image quality, cost, and size/portability. The best part, though, is ease of use. It will do anything I need it to do, and nothing else, and it does it intuitively, easily, and efficiently. There must be better scanners out there, with more awesome features, but, frankly, I'd rather have a scanner with all the features I want and NOTHING ELSE to clutter up the interface. For scanning text documents & home photos, this unit can't be beat.
Oh, yeah, and *perfectly* Mac-compatible.
really noisy July 24, 2008 J. L. Larson (Santa Clara, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing makes a loud grinding noise while running that is unsettling. It makes me wonder how long it's going to last. But on the plus side it's very light weight, about the size of a large pad of paper, so you don't really need to devote a shelf or desktop space for it, you could even carry it somewhere if you wanted (except for the noise). I like it so far.
